Introduction
The expected increased digital automation, unique core environmental conditions, remote supervisory control and remote maintenance, with reduced on-site staffing of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Microreactors (MRs), reinforces the need for Instrumentation and Control (I&C) solutions and computer security measures being considered and maintained during their entire lifecycle, from design to operation to decommissioning.
The IAEA is performing a central role in strengthening and improving cooperation in, and the coordination of, international efforts in the nuclear field, and will bring together relevant subject matter experts in an international workshop, from nuclear and non-nuclear organizations, to continue discussing I&C and computer security related issues and challenges related to the unique technological and operational characteristics of SMR/MRs.
This international workshop is a follow-up activity of the TM on I&C and Computer Security for SMRs/MRs that was held in 2022, and the International Workshop on I&C and Computer Security for SMRs in 2023.
Objectives
The workshop aims to enhance participants' understanding of instrumentation and control, computer security aspects related to innovations on digital technologies for small modular reactors and microreactors, support the development of technical capabilities related to digital instrumentation and control, as well as computer security for small modular reactors and micro reactors.
Participation and registration
All persons wishing to participate in the event have to be designated by an IAEA Member State or should be members of organizations that have been invited to attend.
In order to be designated by an IAEA Member State or invited organization, participants are requested to submit their application via the InTouch+ platform (https://intouchplus.iaea.org) to the competent national authority (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Mission to the IAEA or National Atomic Energy Authority) or organization for onward transmission to the IAEA by 19 January 2026, following the registration procedure in InTouch+.
