    Background

    The aim of this webinar is to outline the importance of considering non-radiological consequences as part of the emergency preparedness and response (EPR) arrangements in line with the IAEA safety standards in order to effectively achieve response goals. This webinar is aimed at professionals with relevant authorities related to emergency planning or with responsibilities in preparing for, and responding to, a nuclear or radiological emergency. This includes decision makers, emergency planners, qualified experts and relevant staff of different response organizations and other interested parties.

    Objectives

    The objectives of the webinar are to:

    • Outline the importance of considering non-radiological consequences as part of the EPR arrangements in line with the IAEA safety standards.
    • Describe the range of adverse psychological, societal, and economic consequences of the nuclear or radiological emergency or the emergency response, irrespective of the initiator.
    • Discuss mitigation of non-radiological consequences and areas that need to be addressed before, during and post an emergency
    • Discuss lessons learned from past emergencies
