Preparing for Zoonotic Outbreaks: the Role of Nuclear Science

A Scientific Forum on Preparing for Zoonotic Outbreaks: the Role of Nuclear Science will take place from 21-22 September 2021 at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Board Room D, C building, 4th floor. The Forum is being held in conjunction with the General Conference.

The Scientific Forum will be held as a physical meeting with a possibility of remote connection.
Participants from Member States, UN Specialized Agencies, IGOs and NGOs attending in person need to register using the?InTouch+ platform. When submitting their application through InTouch+, it will automatically be routed through InTouch+ to the designated focal point for approval. If such a focal point has not been assigned, the application will be submitted automatically to the IAEA.
Persons who want to attend virtually with the possibility to send questions are requested to register?online. All registered persons will shortly before the event receive an access code to the IAEA Conference App which will allow them to view and access information and to ask questions.

Zoonotic diseases and climate change were high on the agenda in Vienna this week as delegates, scientists and environmentalists gathered for the International Atomic Energy Agency’s annual conference, opened by Director General Rafael Grossi. UN Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall was a keynote speaker at the Scientific Forum, the conference’s main side event, which focused on using nuclear science to prepare for zoonotic outbreaks.
Panellists of the Scientific Forum recognized the IAEA’s?Zoonotic Disease Integrated Action (ZODIAC)?initiative as one of the important and timely global initiatives for enhancing response preparedness to pandemics using nuclear and related techniques. Read more?→
The obvious lesson from the pandemic is the lack of global preparedness to respond early to the outbreak of zoonotic diseases. The IAEA dedicated its Scientific Forum to investigate the future and how nuclear science can further help the world to prepare for future zoonotic outbreaks. Read more?→
