    Description

On the occasion of the publication of the IAEA booklet Nuclear Energy for a Net Zero World, the IAEA is organizing a webinar event with a live conversation between IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister and former COP President Michal Kurtyka. This conversation takes place two weeks before the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow, UK.?

The high-level moderated discussion will address the role that nuclear energy plays in climate change mitigation, and its potential contribution to help drive energy systems to climate neutrality (net zero emissions) by the middle of the century. Topics that will be discussed include the nuclear energy option to help move away from fossil fuels, and coal in particular, the need for low-carbon hydrogen to help decarbonize the hard-to-abate sectors, and the necessary financial and policy frameworks to enable investments in nuclear technology. It will also discuss the IAEA and Poland’s future involvement at COP26, alongside other Member States, international organizations and industrial partners supportive of nuclear energy as part of the climate solution.
