Santa Elena is an arid peninsula on Ecuador's Pacific coast and home to 250 000 people. Fresh water was hard to find until the community, the regional university and the IAEA worked together to use isotope techniques to measure the available water. With that data, the community was able to dig wells that will last, providing water 24 hours a day for the first time.
