E-Learning Course on Environmental Applications of Radiation Technology – Level A
New: This course will be open for enrolments on Monday 24 November 2025Over the past decades, economic growth and technological progress have?undeniably improved human welfare and social prosperity. Innovative materials and production methods have made goods cheaper and more widely available, while new energy technologies have kept prices low and supported industrial growth. However, these same innovations often come with significant environmental costs. Plastics, for example, have revolutionized consumer products, making them lightweight, durable, and inexpensive. At the same time, they accumulate in both terrestrial and marine ecosystems and are now found in thousands of organisms, including humans. These cases illustrate a broader truth: development and pollution are often interconnected. Every innovation that brings economic and social benefits may also produce risks for ecosystems and human health. Understanding this duality is crucial if we are to move towards truly sustainable development, where progress does not come at the expense of the environment. This introductory course will familiarize learners with the practical uses and benefits of radiation technology for environmental applications, providing a conceptual overview for the general public and non-technical staff.?
