    Description

    The main objective of the proposed Coordinated Research Project (CRP) is to support interested IAEA Member States in advancing the modelling and simulation of fuel element performance for Liquid Metal-Cooled Fast Reactors (LMFRs). The CRP aims to improve the fundamental understanding of key fuel properties and and radiation effects governing the integral behaviour of fuel elements under normal operation and transient conditions, thereby contributing to the deployment of Generation-IV systems, including small modular reactors (SMRs).
    The CRP will bring together specialists from Member States with active programmes in fast reactors with associated fuel cycles to share national experience, experimental data and modelling approaches.
    In particular, the CRP will address existing gaps in knowledge related to the thermophysical, thermomechanical and microstructural properties of LMFR fuels and cladding materials, including inputs from multiscale modelling, and will enhance confidence in advanced fuel performance simulation tools.
     
    The main focus areas for this CRP are
    - Datasets collection for thermophysical, thermomechanical and other material properties for conventional and advanced fast reactor fuels and cladding materials,  data from irradiation and post-irradiation examinations; support from multiscale modelling results-  Benchmark exercises (including preparation of thermohydraulic boundary conditions for reactor tests, using integral codes, code-to-experiment and code comparisons);- Uncertainty Analysis and Sensitivity Study( identification of key input parameters and modelling assumptions; propagation of uncertainties to safety-relevant output quantities)
