  • Decommissioning and Environmental Management Advisory Services (DEMAS)

    Review missions

The Decommissioning and Environmental Management Advisory Services (DEMAS) provides integrated, multidisciplinary advisory support that combines technical, environmental, financial and stakeholder-related aspects of decommissioning and remediation. It offers independent, hands-on guidance from international experts, complementing existing national capabilities and helping ensure that strategies are safe, efficient and sustainable.

DEMAS is also designed to reflect the evolving needs and priorities of Member States and to highlight these needs to other stakeholders— such as policy developers—underscoring the importance of adequate R&D, supportive policy frameworks and incentives that encourage investment in decommissioning innovation.

The primary objective of DEMAS is to support Member States in planning, managing and implementing decommissioning and environmental remediation activities in line with international best practices.

    Requesting a DEMAS Mission

DEMAS missions are initiated upon an official request from a Member State and are fully tailored to its specific decommissioning context and needs. Requests should be submitted to the Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy.
