General uses
Radium today has uses in radiation detectors, instrument calibration and cancer therapy. In the past it has been used for self-luminescent paint as well as a large amount of quack medicine.
Risks
Like other alpha emitters Radium-226 is extremely dangerous if injested or inhaled. Furthermore, it decays into Radon-222 which is also radioactive.
